NETWARCOM’s Force Career Counselor Site

11:40 am June 25th, 2008

I don’t know if this is a new site or not, but NETWARCOM’s Force Career Counselor site has some good information for those who are going up for E-4 to E-6.  They have electronic copies of many of the pubs that are required for the general community, and not just CTs.

iTunes issue with SquidlyAIR

9:52 pm May 28th, 2008

Got reports of iTunes not being able to download episodes of SquidlyAIR, and I gotta say I’m a bit stumped as to why.  It might have been a software upgrade in the last few weeks here on my host…  Who knows.  All I know is that direct downloads and RSS feed pulls (like from iPodder, etc) still work.

It seems that even if you go under the Advanced menu and select “Subscribe to Podcast” and paste my RSS feed in (http://study.schleppingsquid.net/?feed=podcast) it *still* doesn’t work - but works great with other podcacher programs…  Still troubleshooting this.  Sorry for the issue.  Grrrr….

New CTN AIR References

9:39 pm May 1st, 2008

Interested in seeing what CTNs will be tested on during their exams soon? Look no further, HERE is a PDF I created to help you find those books - if you want to buy them yourself. Commands with CTNs at them *should* be getting these books before the January 2009 Chief’s exams, as that exam will be the first one to reflect the new material.

Brace yourself… Some of these books are a tad pricey!

Oopsie… Old pub!

4:31 pm February 4th, 2008

Looks like I forgot to update one of the pubs in the file section. Seems I had the older US Navy Uniform Regulations manual still in there - it’s been removed and the post-2006 version is up for your perusal. Only down side: It’s HUGE (90M zipped vice the 10M old version). Direct link to the newer version: HERE. Luckily, SquidlyAIR 002 is still usable :).

SquidlyAIR - 002 - Navy Grooming Standards

10:06 pm January 31st, 2008

Here it is, episode 002 of the SquidlyAIR podcast. In this show I cover what the Blue Jacket’s Manual and the U.S. Navy Uniform Regulations (NAVPERS-15665I) say about personal grooming. Also, the Navy history lesson is on the battle between the Bonhomme Richard (commanded by John Paul Jones) and HMS Serapis during the American Revolution.

SquidlyAIR - 001 - NAVEDTRA 14145 Ch 4

10:22 pm January 23rd, 2008

Alright, I am trying something new. A podcast… Yep, something none of the other AIR sites have tried (yet). Download the first episode HERE (64Kbit - 7M version) or HERE (32Kbit - 3.5M version). An RSS feed will go up in a few days - when I fix a couple of minor local site glitches… Contact me at SquidlyAIR [at] gmail for any constructive comments, requests or encouragement.

The goal of the SquidlyAIR podcast is to assist US Navy Sailors in preparing for their respective rating exams… And to help them shore up on topics seen on the average advancement exam.

In the beginning, I plan to offer this podcast on a weekly basis. Each podcast should keep to 10 - 15 minutes in length and will be focused for the widest audience. As I go along, and as other Sailors join the effort to help others advance, I may offer this podcast on a more frequent basis. More will be posted on the website as it comes available. For more information on helping out, contact me at the email address mentioned above.

In the inaugural post of the SquidlyAIR podcast, I cover a section of chapter 4 of NAVEDTRA 14145 (Military Requirements for Petty Officer First Class) and relay a one minute Navy history lesson on the USS Pueblo. The theme music is “Stuff From The Basement” by Nemus.
